Ever wanted a great nights sleep without any ambient noise or light, not sure how to get it? Well, the answer is a bed underground at White Cliffs. With the exception of a few essential traveler’s services, most of White Cliffs is underground and it is a truly remarkable adventure. Even those who worry about claustrophobia are generally pleasantly surprised at the underground experience. White Cliffs is an easy one hour drive from Wilcannia on a fully sealed road. Keep an eye out you will definitely see some of Australia’s most iconic wildlife!

Getting to White Cliffs

No matter where you are travelling from there is a road leading to White Cliffs from every direction with plenty to see along the way. Always check the latest road conditions and warnings before you embark on your outback adventure, particularly if you decide to venture off-road.

White Cliffs is a 12hr drive from Sydney, 10hr 30min from Canberra, 11hr 30min from Melbourne and 9hrs from Adelaide. The road from Wilcannia on the Barrier Highway is FULLT and will have you arriving in White Cliffs within the hour. If you fly or train it into Broken Hill you can hire a car for the three-hour drive. White Cliffs does have a small airstrip that is available to land lite aircraft, avgas is available and pickup and drop off can usually be arranged with your accommodation provider.

So proud of our Opal that in 19?? it was named as the Australian National Gemstone.

Have you heard about the World renown White Cliffs Opal Pineapple? Over 100million years ago some really remarkable things started to happen right in this particular area and absolutely nowhere else in the world. After lots of movement, growth and changes White Cliffs ended up with treasure buried deep within the earth. These incredible extremely rare Gem Minerals - The Opal Pineapples are highly sought after by mineral collectors around the globe. And no, it is not a fruit! The ‘Old Timers’ who orginaly discovered them thought the shape looked similar to the skin of a pineapple. Clearly they were men because a woman would of thought they looked like a flower or coral!

White Cliffs is home to another world first - the Solar Station which was the original groundbreaking technology to test the advances made in Solar power. Definitely worthy of an Instagram moment
